A Special Thank You for a Successful KidsChristmas 2008

February 16th, 2009

Many times we wonder if the good things we do actually get to those who really need them. Do our donations of money and time really make a difference?

Kids Christmas, Inc. would like to answer these questions with a great big YES! Thanks to many local people and businesses, some of Cumberland County’s children enjoyed a very special Christmas treat! North Cumberland Elementary School was the setting for more than 50 youngsters getting to visit with Santa and open gifts. Smiles and laughter rang out loud and clear as the children opened presents and enjoyed ice cream and treats. This was the 4th year that Kids Christmas, Inc. has provided this special time.

Program makes Christmas wishes come true

November 19th, 2008

The Christmas season this year was again witness to the charitable efforts of a local family and the generosity of the community.  This was the 4th year that the Neal family, along with friends, local businesses and individuals, have worked together to provide a special Christmas for children of Cumberland County.

The Jaycees had an annual project called the Children’s Christmas Shopping Tour, which benefited needy children in the community, but ended with the closing of the local chapter.  The joy on the children’s faces led Randy and Erica Neal, and Lori Neal Freitag, former members of the Jaycees, to combine their efforts to ensure that this project would continue.

The first year was funded by a Neal family yard sale, along with money out of their own pockets, and contributions from several businesses and individuals.  The following year they received funds for this program from many more businesses and individuals, which enabled them to increase the number of children they were able to help.  A different school each year benefits from this generosity, and the number of children that receive gifts grows each year as well.

Christmas 2007 was held at Stone Elementary where 52 children visited with Santa and opened their presents after enjoying pizza and other treats.  Coats, shoes, and toys of all kinds were given to a roomful of smiling faces, along with stockings filled with candy and other goodies.

Each year the number of businesses and individuals donating their time and money to this event grows, and hopefully next year the outpouring of goodwill and generosity from the community will help even more children.  They would like to thank the following businesses and individuals that selflessly donated their money and/or time to make this year’s Christmas for the kids another wonderful success:  Mountain Farm International, Lakeland Construction, Potter’s Cash Home, Crye-Leike Brown Realty, Wilson’s Paint, Vegas Steakhouse, Merle Norman Cosmetics, Neely Lumber, VFW, VFW Ladies Auxillary, Wal Mart, Tare, Inc., Jeff Freitag Construction, AtWork Cumberland Staffing, Advanced Printing, SignSmith, First Realty, Rick’s Reliable Transmission, J&M Insulation, Freitag Construction, Crossville Crane, Food City, Jerry Pick, Dennis & Lois Wilbanks, Butch & Karen Smith, Randall Boston Attorney at Law, J.H. Safeco Insurance Company names Crossville agent Honorary Community Hero Award

November 19th, 2008

Lori Neal Freitag, owner of Crossville Insurance Group, has been chosen as Honorary Community Hero for her work with Kids Christmas, Inc., a non-profit charity benefiting needy children.  In a letter from Safeco’s Community Relations Team, Lily Grainger stated it was an honor to read about the inspiring work of Lori.  Ms. Grainger said the selflessness of the agent’s nominees was truly humbling to her and her entire team, and Lori was awarded $2,000 to help with Kids Christmas.  The group has already helped hundreds of children at Stone, Pleasant Hill, and Martin Elementary.  Currently they are busy getting names from North Cumberland.  For more information or to donate your money or time, call 931-484-3032.
